These are a few of my favourite black-things…
I considered plugging my own store with a discount this weekend, but everyone’s doing that! Instead here are 7 of my Pack Essentials that are black…
- Leatherman Wave Black Oxide. This has been with me for years. I used it today to move some shelving and break down some stands from my new office. It sees constant use and it’s truly an essential.
- Mechanix Gear Insulated FastFit. I’m a big fan of Mechanix Gear gloves mainly for their awesome cost to quality ratio. I’ve seen the regular model out-perform another brand of special-grip gloves, in the field on a TR deployment. I’ve recently found out I’ve got Raynaud’s phenomenon so my latest pair will see constant use over this winter season. Read more here…
- PDW Stash Pouch (SP1). This is a new addition to my carry, but I’m using out one for a small first aid kit and another for general gear. I love tons about these, but one thing I immediately disliked was the jingly zipper pulls… very easily fixed with a bit of paracord!
- Anker Charging Cable 3ft. I’ve had my original Apple cable die (like pretty much every other iPhone user?!) and been through my share of “quality” and cheap charging cables. I treat them pretty rough and will sometime carry them around in my pack. Even some of the tough, highly-reviewed cables have failed me, but this one is impressing me… for now!!
- 1″ Gorilla Tape. Duct Tape — improved. ‘Nuff said… No? Check out my thought here…
- ITW Grimloc D-Ring. Pack Essentials entry here.
- GO PUCK Charger. Small, puck shaped, robust enough to carry in the bottom of your pack! Read more here…

What I carry, either daily or out on a hike, is constantly being refined as I discover new methods and products. More…
