Editor’s June EDC
I like to share my EDC from time to time as it’s often an interesting reflection on how things have changed…
- Magpul DAKA Pouch – Small (OD Green)
- PDW Dog Tag Tool with paracord and clip to attach it to the keys I’m using that day
- Homemade paracord bracelet with Ru Stag Bead
- Seiko SNE095P2 with MoD spec NATO strap from Timefactors
- Watcher Patch (yes, there’s a theme going on!)
- Spyderco Urban Leaf Lightweight
- iPhone 7
- Another Ru Stag Bead I put aside for a friend who is purchasing one!
My EDC is probably different to many that you’ll see online. I don’t have tons of knives, torch, watches and other tools to rotate round, expensive or otherwise. I like to keep things simple and my carry journey has taken me from being “prepared for anything” (heavily I might add) to gradually stripping everything back as much as I can.
Two noticeable changes, for me, is the lack of a torch, pen and wallet, all of which I’ve carried daily for many years. The main reason for both of these has been that I’ve started “rucking” to work as much as I can. While it’s only just over an hour of walking a day, that’s an hour more than I was doing!
I tend to empty my pockets as much as possible while walking, lumps in my pockets annoy me and I tend to ditch things I don’t want in the front zipper of my GORUCK Bullet and access them when needed. Sure, if I head out somewhere without my Ruck I’ll pocket what I need, but I’ll be more selective now. The same also goes for my keys. I have two sets at the moment – home/car and work keys – which I carry when needed, and pack if I don’t. I’ll attach the Dog Tag Tool to whichever I’m using.
The Magpul DAKA pouch does not go in my pockets, but I felt needed an honourable mention. I have three different sizes and they are in and out of rotation all the time. Over and over they’re exactly what I’m looking for to throw a bunch of gear in. If you’ve not got some, you should!
The clip broke on my Zebra Sharbo X LT3 pen that I still use daily for work, so in some sense that change was forced. They are an awesome company and I wouldn’t even consider looking elsewhere for my personal needs.
One change I would like to make is to pick up a small torch/flashlight that is streamline (pen-like would be ideal), has a clip and a clicky switch. I’ve got my eye on a few, but none of them quite do it for me, so I’d be up for suggestions.
I’ve always carried FOURSEVENS, but since the companies takeover by Prometheus Lights, which I think has the potential to be really exciting, I’ve had two of my 4 torch outright fail on me. One is locked onto moonlight mode, despite various attempts to ‘reset’ / use new batteries / clean etc. and the other just plain won’t turn on for longer than a mili-second. Needless to say I’m ready for something new, so please let me know your recommendations in the comments…

Nat… I’ve been using the same cheap torch for the last 2 years without any issues. So inexpensive that I have gone back and ordered 3 more to keep in other places/packs. “clicky” like you want and super small. Very bright… and did I say the price was great! Hi Tyler, thanks for the tip. I’ll definitely check it out. Thank you.
On my quest to lighten and simplify my EDC I started carrying a Zebralight 90-degree torch that uses one AA or one 14500 battery. I keep the headband for it clipped in my pack. It did die after taking a horrible fall but I just got notification from Zebralight that my little light is on the way back home to me via USPS.

Wow, that’s incredible service. I must say Zebralight was a brand that I considered for a while, I’ll check it out again! Thanks for taking the time to comment and recommend!
