Loadout: The Happy Wallet Pack
Jeremy shows us how affordability doesn’t have to mean a massive drop in quality.
Jeremy Roman: I, like many people, do not have a lot of disposable income, so I have had to make due with what I can get as cheaply as possible without sacrificing too much quality. My B.O.B. is a lot more complete, and the items are of a better quality than my EDC.
So, my EDC is as follows:
- Mountainsmith Lumbar Pack (older model bought online for $20, and so, so worth it)
- Camelback water bottle (water is a little low because I do use it when I go to the gym)
- Cheaper Water Bottle (bought in the dollar section of Target)
- 20 ft. of 550 Paracord
- Thermal Blanket
- Emergency Poncho
- Large triangular bandage (mostly used as a headband these days)
- 8 ft. of duct tape
- Whistle
- P38 Can Opener
- Button Compass
- Swiss Army Knife
- Mini-Bic
- Cree LED 250 Lumen Flashlight (also bought online for cheap)
- Solar Charge (USB cable not shown)
- Clif Bar (constantly swapped out)
- Pack of Raisins (ditto)
- Super Glue
- Small Multitool
- Ozark Trail First Aid Kit (supplemented with extra allergy meds for me, and a week’s supply of my roommate’s meds)
And on the left I have the stuff from my pockets/person:
- Baseball Cap (Go O’s!)
- Paracord Bracelet (sadly, not true 550)
- C9 by Champion Digital Watch
- Zippo
- Ronson Butane Lighter
- RFID Blocking Wallet
- Cellphone (not shown)
- Headphones (not shown)
Editor: I decided to include links to general pages rather than the specific item as the nature of this post is about affordability. Shopping around and finding the item that fits YOUR needs is the best way to keep things cheap!
Editor: Nothing helps our pack choices more than learning from others. Whether it’s your tried and test combination of items or something new you’re trying out, we want to see it. Click below to get started or click here for help on what to send us.
