Loadout: Shooting Bag
I love hard-use pack stories, especially if it’s survived two deployments to Iraq, one rat chewing through it to get food, and countless patrols and recon missions!
Editor: Nick from Krupto Strategic shared this great loadout with me that he found on Instagram. I just had to reach out to Ryan who graciously let me share it here with you all…
Ryan:
I was recently asked by a couple of friends that are getting started in precision rifle matches, what I carry in my bag.
For starters, I have a natural tendency to pack everything and the kitchen sink when I go on trips. I try not to do that with rifle matches.
The bag is a Mystery Ranch 3-Day Assault bag on a NICE frame. It has survived two deployments to Iraq, one rat chewing through it to get food, and countless patrols and recon OP/LP missions. I can stand the bag up and the frame acts like a support and I can rest my rifle on top and take seated support shots. I have done this out to 1000y on 1, 1.5, and 2Moa tgts. Very stable.
I usually carry four support bags: two small; a WIEBAD bucklebag and Armageddon Gear “the Brick” grippy rear support bag. The two large bags are the Wiebad TacPad and Pump Pillow.
Magazines are a combo of Magpul AI 5 and 10 round and 2 AW 10 round mags. I carry one AI 5r ound mag for doing off hand standing shots. An extra Sidewinder. Industries Sidewinder plus a stack of business cards to write down drops and wind holds. Barrel Cool device to serve as both a ECI (empty chamber indicator) and a ambient air fan.
Two eye patches. This is for left hand shots. I have to wear the eye patch because I am right eye dominant, and cannot attain a good sight picture holding my right eye close.
A squeeze bottle of MIO for dumping into water.
My iPhone (not pictured) is my back up ballistic solution solver. I use Geo Ballistics on my phone in conjunction with their weather meter. I also use a Kestrel Ballistics K5 (5700 Elite w/ Link) and Applied Ballistics.
Small tool pouch: contains Multitasker Tools Twist and the Series 3. A few small Allen keys in case I have to adjust the collet and mag shim in my Jae Global stock.
I attached a Dark Angel Medical DARK kit onto my bag. S**t happens, be prepared.
Lastly, I carry close to 150 rounds. I attached two 20 round holders into my bag, and load up all mags prior to starting each training or match day. This eliminated carrying around large ammo boxes in my bag.
Binos are Vortex Optics Diamondback 10×42.
