Visual Review: High Ground Gear HG3D
Ryo of Thunder Bird Hills takes up through a visual rundown of the features of his High Ground Gear 3-Day Pack both through photography, a short video and his thoughts on the pack…
HG3D – High Ground 3-Day Pack with Quick Release Waistbelt
Total weight: 5.4 lbs.
Material: 500D Cordura
Volume: 2,500 cu. in.
Ryo’s thoughts:
The design of this pack is the best! The size is great, not too big, not too small. I have customised the pack by adding a large Velcro panel. It is also scalable by adding KIFARU Pods, KIFARU Back Pouch etc.
The pack can be used in all seasons. It can be used in the middle of winter camp but also has great breathability due to the curved frame, although the frame does feel a little narrow.
The position of the zipper pockets and mesh pockets make them very easy to use. The Kangaroo pocket is very good, especially in transporting items you might not want inside your pack, such as jackets and snow gear.
As the bag has been designed for soldiers wearing body armor, the frame is a little painful on the shoulders, but I grew accustomed to it over time. The frame is made of carbon steel and has a high rigidity.
Quick-Release Waistbelt System:
Not being a soldier, the quick-release waistbelt system is not something I required. However, there are good uses for it. For example, when attacking the summit of a mountain, the bulk of a pack can be left at a base and only the lighter, essential equipment taken forward.
