Recon: Wraith Pack

I was caught off guard by this pack when I first picked it up and noticed how lightweight it was.

The Wraith comes in 500D Cordura or the 100% Nylon LiteLok which is fantastic. Grey Ghost Gear offers their packs in many color and fabric options. This pack comes in Coyote Brown, Kryptek Typhon and MultiCam.

They are one of few companies that supply gear in alternative camo like Kryptek. Reviewing the Wraith, and the Legacy Three Day Pack, has been my first time seeing Kryptek and having hands on experienced with the LiteLok but they are both fast becoming some of my favorite materials. I wish all the packs that I’ve ever had were made from this super light nylon material. It’s very durable and with a water test under the faucet the water never penetrated and beaded up beautifully. This is a worthy alternative to 500D Cordura.

This hydration specific light-weight pack that is small in profile but not on features or utility. It has a panel of loop on the inside of the water bladder pocket so you can customize it with any hook and loop pouches that you have for custom orientation. I put a few MultiCam loop pouches inside that I happen to have on hand.

The outside compartment has an admin pocket at the bottom and the rest of the panel is covered in MOLLE webbing so you can add more pouches as you see fit. This bag ships with a Hydrapak 2L bladder included which is rare. Usually you have to spend the extra $30 to get your own bladder. Kudos to Grey Ghost for that.

Other notable features are the fact that you can completely remove the shoulder straps if you want to attach it to a chest rig or vest. These straps have ample foam padding, however there is a lot of webbing which you’d have to tie up with some ITW Web Dominator or something like it. The back panel is reasonably well padded and covered in mesh to let you breathe.

I wish it had a sternum strap but it’s not designed to carry excessively heavy loads so maybe you don’t need it. It’s an easy addition to make. GGG thought of everything so patch lovers won’t be disappointed because there is a loop panel at the top of the pack above the MOLLE.

In summary, this pack is a simple yet effective design. It’s a solid build with quality workmanship. It has only what you need and nothing you don’t. When you are going in light, the Wraith pack will fit your mission. Stay up-to-date with GGG here.
