D-Day & the Anniversary Patch
Tuesday is a regular posting day for Pack Config. But tomorrow, 6th June, we will be silent…
I originally planned to announce the Anniversary Edition Watcher patch tomorrow on the officially recognised “D-Day”.
However in researching a good website/resource to share alongside the launch, that would aid in all our our own personal considerations of this day, I was reminded of the fact that from 0415 in the early morning hours of 5th June 1944 countless souls were already preparing themselves for what would turn out to be “the Longest Day”. So here is my D-Day post and patch release. Early, but suitably…
Not only is this a Pack Config anniversary patch, celebrating our 4th year, but my desire is that it can also serve as a constant, present reminder of the sacrifices made by countless men and women, who humbly put others before themselves, in the name of freedom. The “Watcher” symbol is a visual prompt to remember that we affect the world around us, a world that has already been affected by those who came before us.
These patches are due with me on 12 June, and they will be shipped out to you on the same day they arrive. This batch is limited to 50 pieces, so if you’re interested, grab it while you can. Regular Watcher Patches are also available in our store (also shipping 12 June).
The website I found is called D-Day Revisited. Their main purpose is to “fund and organise pilgrimages which give veterans of the Normandy campaign an opportunity to revisit the beaches and surrounding areas where they fought, and to pay tribute to those they left behind back in 1944.”
Not only do they arrange these trips for veterans, but they have a wealth of information, both factual and through stories recounted by veterans. It is well worth a visit, plus if you feel inclined, you can donate to the cost of the trips they provide for veterans (which they do not charge for) here. Below is a link to what I feel is a good starting place, but please do have a browse around the site. Please note: I have no affiliation with this site, just found something good that I wanted to share.
